In December 2003 the european-wide invitation for tender procedure was started with the publication of a search for a prospective network provider. The bidder negotiations were accomplished within the first half of the year 2004.
An association of the companies
Alcatel Austria AG
and Motorola GmbH
(called TETRON) was determined as best bidder, and the contract with the association was signed on the 24th June 2004.
In further consequence the company
TETRON Sicherheitsnetz Errichtung und BetriebsgmbH
was established.
In Tyrol and Vienna the ditigal radio network started in january 2006.
Also the province of Lower Austria is on air.
The digital radio network was also implemented in the cities of Salzburg and Klagenfurt for the European Soccer Championship 2008, and
it is still in use.
After full development the operation of the radio service shall be guaranteed for a period of 25 years. Within this time frame possible technological developments will be accommodated in the form of system expansions.
