Last step of rollout in Lower Austria


Mrs. Maria Fekter (Minister of Interior), Mr. Josef Plank (Member of the Lower Austria Government) und Wolfgang Sobotka (Member of the Lower Austria Government) agreed on a financing modell for the rollout in Lower Austria.

"The common and integrative radio system for all public safety organisations has been well-proven in the daily use since the start in Tyrol, Vienna and parts of Lower Austria.
For the first time, the direct and frictionless communication between the different public safety organisations is possible and can save lives, especially in challenging situations.

Police, Fire fighters, Ambulance, Mountain-, water-, cave-, and air rescue organisations and also rescue dog organisations will use the new technology by the mid of 2009.


EURO 2008 - Summary


The Euro08 was a big challenge for all public safety organisations.
All necessary areas were covered by the TETRA network.
Some facts:
Used radios
Police appr. 15.000
Fire fighters appr. 3.800
Ambulance appr. 3.000
Others appr. 2.500
Radio calls: appr. 8.000.000
In peak periods there were more than 900 radios registered in one base station.

The experience and the feedback from the different organisations were very positve. Espescially the coverage and the good quality of the voice were stated.

MSO Vienna implemented


On the 10th of January the MSO Vienna was placed into operation

MSO is a abbreviation of Mobile Switching Office.

The base stations in Vienna were connected to MSO in Tyrol and by the 10th of January they were re-routed to the MSO in Vienna

The MSO also provides a interconnection to the interal and public telephone network and acts as a gateway to the Dispatcher systems.

Austrian wide there will be also MSOs in Styria, Carinthia, Upper Austria and Salzburg.

To improve the safety and security of the Austrian Projekt "Digital Radio BOS Austria" there will be implemented a second MSO in Vienna.
Normally, this one will be in stand by operation, but if any of the other MSOs has a malfunction it can take over the operation at any time.

Grundsatzvereinbarung mit dem Land Oberösterreich


Mrs. Liese Prokop (Minister of Interior), Mr. Josef Pühringer (governor of Upper Austria) and Mr. Josef Stockinger (Member of the Upper Austria Government) signed a Memorandum of Understanding between the ministry of the Interior and the province of Upper Austria on September 28th, 2005.

In Vienna and Tyrol, the new digital radio network is already in operation.
In the provinces of Lower Austria and Styria the roll out is in progress.

Ministry of Justice takes part in the digital radio network


Mrs Liese Prokop (Minister of Interior) and Mrs Karin Gastinger (Minister of Justice) signed an agreement between the two ministries on January 18nd, 2006. The Ministry of Justice will order 700 radio terminals for their forces.

The changeover will go synchronous with the austrian wide roll out of the digital radio network. Especially in cases of emergency, the forces of the Ministry of Justice will be connected with other emergency organisations and missions can be handled more faster and easier.

Digital Radio in Vienna on Air


Mrs Liese Prokop (Minister of Interior) and Mr. Dr. Michael Häupl (governor and Mayor of Vienna) formally put in operation the new digital radio in Tyrol.

Timely to the Presidency of the Council of Europe the police forces and other public safety organisations got a modern and tap-proof radio network. This digital radio network garanties a very secure and trans-organizational communication.

23 base stations were build to cover the city of Vienna. Other 45 base stations were build to provide the digital radio coverage in the metro.

Also the airport Vienna/Schwechat and the highway towards Vienna is covered by the system.

Digital Radio in Tyrol on Air


Mrs Liese Prokop (Minister of Interior) and Mr. Dr. Herwig van Staa (governor of Tyrol) formally put in operation the new digital radio in Tyrol.

Tyrol acts as pioneer for Austria. It is the first province where the secure and common digital radio network went on air. By the close partnership between Tyrol and the MOI succeeded to keep the schedule accurately and to reach a milestone for the security of the country.

Alltogether, 170 base stations were build in Tyrol and 1369 digital radios will be issued to the police forces in Tyrol.

The Austrian wide operation is planned for the year 2009.

The province of Styria takes part in the country wide digital radio

Mrs. Liese Prokop (Minister of Interior) and Mrs. Waltraud Klasnic (governor of Styria) signed an agreement between the ministry of the Interior and the province of Lower Austria on August 2nd, 2005.

Styria is after Tyrol, Vienna and Lower Austria the 4th province joining the digital radio project. In Styria, the digital radio network should be available by the end of 2007. Austrian wide operation is planned for the year 2009

The province of Lower Austria takes part in the country wide digital radio

Mrs. Liese Prokop (Minister of Interior) and Dipl.-Ing. Josef Plank (member of the provincial government) signed an agreement between the ministry of the Interior and the province of Lower Austria on July 18th, 2005.

From the beginning of 2007 all public institutions und public safety organisations will join the new digital radio system.

The City of Vienna participate in the country wide digital radio

Mrs. Liese Prokop (Minister of Interior) and Dr. Michael Haeupl (Mayor and Governor of Vienna) signed an agreement between the ministry of the Interior and the City of Vienna on June 27th, 2005.

Also the underground lines will be covered by the new digital radio. This will provide a better communication platform for the public safety organisations and will help to make the coordination much easier.
